We have been in our new home for about five months now. It feels like forever, yet it really just happened yesterday. This will be the second home Andrew and I have built together. I would have to say that we did almost everything we wanted or felt could have been done better in our first home.
This house was about contrast for me. Everything inside and out is white and black.
You can’t find a bigger contrast than that. I’m sure a lot of people thought I was crazy (my husband being one of them) but I wanted my trim and walls the same color. And it totally worked out. Another form of contrast can be seen in the more ornate baseboards and trim packages I picked out.
I wanted this home to feel more established. Almost as if it has been on the block for a while. Although painted brick is a trend it does add an element of maturity to a home. Formal landscaping adds another touch of permanence. The continuity in the plantings along with not using as many species as we had used at our last home gives it the clean feel I desired. (Stay tuned for a landscape post and photos when it greens up!)
As we decorate and finish each room, I will share pics and info on the products and brands used—as a series in this blog. There is no way I can share all the finishes in one post and each room is still slowly evolving as we settle in. But please feel free to ask me anything in the meantime!
