As a society, we go, go, go. I am the LAST person to stop and just be still. You can ask anyone in my life, I have a hard time slowing down. My Dad said something to me the other day that made a major impact on me. He told me to stop, be still, go somewhere where I could hear my own thoughts, pray, meditate, journal and focus on ME.
I did just that. I left my phone in my home office and sat in my closet. Yes, my closet. This was the most ideal place for me to not get distracted. My Dad also reiterated to not pray or think about anyone else or think about things that had to be done. He said only focus on me. Sounds a little selfish right?
Since that morning, I have tried my best to do this daily. It’s so simple but with all my daily distractions I have to make that effort to be still. A mind at peace becomes a life of peace. It is crazy how mental everything in our lives can become and a lot of times we don’t take the time to bring clarity and peace to ourselves.
Be Still
I am a people pleaser and most of the time, I exert my energy to make everyone else happy. “If Momma ain’t happy, nobody’s happy.” This quote is so red-neck but so true. I am trying to say no and do the things that make ME happy. This will, in turn, make those around me happy as well…
So, are you listening to yourself? Your needs? Are you focusing on YOUR relationships with your family, friends, and maker? Put your phone away, and be still. No distractions, just you, even if it’s just for 5 minutes. It will bring a peace and clarity you may be searching for.
Make your Monday Matter and give back some time to YOU.
